A Floral Arrangement for April

There is so much abundance in the cutting garden at the moment so it was lovely to put together this floral arrangement for April.  Days are warm but not too hot and the humidity hasn’t arrived yet so the flowers thrive.  Zinnias, Orlaya, Delphinium, Larkspur, Scabiosa, and Dahlias are some of the notable blooms.  I try to pick every evening to keep the flowers coming and love putting all this bounty into arrangements.  I am constantly encouraged and often amazed at the incredible cut flowers that can be grown here in Central Florida

Bud Vases

This month’s arrangement features the following flowers…

  • Scoop Scabiosa,
  • Dalmation Peach Foxglove
  • Cafe au Lait Dahlia
  • Peaches ‘n Cream Dahlia
  • Black Satin Dahlia
  • Larkspur
  • Queen Lime Blush Zinnias
  • Benary’s Giant Lime Zinnias
  • Isabellina Zinnias
  • Phlox Drummondii “Sugar Stars”
Scoop Scabiosa

The Scoop Scabiosa were planted in fall and came through the cold winter here with no issues.  They have grown really tall and are just coming into flower now.

Dalmation Peach Foxglove has also been a big success this year.  I sowed seeds back in the fall and this particular variety will flower the following spring,  so it is a wonderful choice for our climate.

The color is that wonderful shade of peachy-pink and it combines beautifully with Cafe au Lait Dahlias.

These colors get picked up in the Queen Lime Blush Zinnias too

The range of colors in just one flower of these little Zinnias is incredible.

Add a little lime green from Benary’s Lime Zinnia

….. some pale yellow from Zinnia Isabellina

… and some mauve shades from sprays of Phlox Drummondii “Sugar Stars”

It’s lovely to see a color palette evolve.

and to sit in the shade and put it all together.

    Hello Kate,

Hi Virginie! I’ve been a little quiet on here lately. Thank you so much for your lovely comments – I would be delighted to give you a weekly bouquet from the garden if you lived here! I always enjoy your lovely posts from your beautiful family garden in France. It is very magical. I am so glad that it recovered from those awful floods you had. I hope some cold weather in Bruxelles will find you once again in Wittamers sipping Hot Chocolate and sampling something delicious!
      Kate xx
